NEW DELHI: Indian police say a 16-day-old baby boy believed to have been snatched by a monkey has been found drowned in a well.
The infant was sleeping under a mosquito net at his home in the eastern state of Odisha on Friday when he was taken by a rhesus macaque, a species with a reddish-pink face common across India.
“The mother is saying that she saw a monkey take away her child. She raised an alarm but the monkey quickly leaped over the roof and vanished out of sight,” police sub-inspector S.M. Baral told AFP.
“We launched a search along with the forest officers. Yesterday (Sunday) the baby was spotted inside the well dead,” she told AFP.
A post-mortem showed the infant died of asphyxia due to drowning, Baral said.
“Since there were no injury marks on the baby, maybe the monkey dropped him in the well.”

اسرائیلی فوج نے خبردار کیا ہے کہ وہ مبینہ 'دہشت گرد اہداف' کو نشانہ بنانے کے لیے غزہ کی پٹی کے اندر کارروائی کر سکتے ہیں۔
اسرائیلی فوج کے برگیڈیئر جنرل رونن منیلس نے صحافیوں کو بتایا کہ غزہ میں قابض عسکریت پسند گروہ حماس فلسطینی مظاہرین کو استعمال کرتے ہوئے اسرائیل کے خلاف اپنے حملوں کو چھپا رہا ہے۔
جبکہ فلسطینی رہنما محمود عباس نے کہا ہے کہ جمعے کو ہونے والے خون خرابے کی ذمہ داری اسرائیل پر عائد ہوتی ہے۔
غزہ کی سرحد پر اسرائیلی فوجیوں کے ہاتھوں 16 فلسطینی مارے گئے تھے۔

فلسطینی یوم الارض کے سلسلے میں ہونے والے مظاہروں میں اسرائیل کے زیرِ قبضہ علاقوں میں اپنے آبائی گھروں میں واپس جانے کا حق مانگ رہے ہیں۔ اسرائیل فوج کے اندازوں کے مطابق ان مظاہروں میں 30 ہزار افراد نے شرکت کی تھی۔
سنہ 2014 کی جنگ کے بعد سے یہ غزہ میں سب سے زیادہ ہلاکت خیز دن تھا۔ اقوامِ متحدہ کی سلامتی کونسل نے ہنگامی اجلاس میں اس تشدد کی مذمت کی۔
ہزاروں فلسطینیوں نے چھ ہفتوں پر مشتمل اس احتجاج کے دوران سرحد تک مارچ کیا جسے ’واپسی کا عظیم مارچ‘ قرار دیا گیا ہے۔ یہ احتجاج اسرائیل کے قیام کے 70 سال پورے ہونے پر کیا گیا۔
ادھر اسرائیلی وزیر اعظم بنیامن نیتن یاہو نہ اپنے فوجیوں کی تعریف کی کہ انھوں نے ملکی سرحد کا تحفظ کیا اور دیگر اسرائیلیوں کی چھٹی امن سے گزری۔

اقوامِ متحدہ کے سیکرٹری جنرل انتونیو گٹریس نے جمعے کو پیش آنے والے واقعے کی آزادانہ تحقیقات کا مطالبہ کیا ہے۔
اقوامِ متحدہ میں اقرائیلی سفیر ڈینی ڈینن نے اس خونریزی کا الزام حماس پر عائد کیا۔
خبر رساں ادارے ای ایف پی کے مطابق بعد ازاں اسرائیلی فوج کے برگیڈیئر جنرل رونن منیلس نے کہا کہ جمعے کو پیش آنے والے واقعات ’مظاہرین کا احتجاج نہیں‘ بلکہ حماس کی جانب سے ’منظم دہشت گرد کارروائی تھی۔‘
’اگر یہ سب جاری رہاتو ہمارے پاس اس کے سوا کوئی چارہ نہیں رہے کہ کہ ہم غزہ کے اندر کارروائی کرکے ان دہشت گردوں کو نشانہ بنائیں جو ہمارے خیال میں ان واقعات کے ذمہ دار ہیں۔‘
کچھ مظاہرین دوبارہ سرحد کی طرف گئے تاکہ احتجاج دوبارہ شروع کیا جا سکے۔ جس کے بعد سنیچر کو غزہ کی سرحد پر مزید جھڑپوں بے مزید 15 افراد زخمی ہوئے۔

گھروں کو واپسی کے لیے احتجاج
حماس اور مختلف فلسطینی دھڑوں کی طرف سے منظم کیے گئے یہ مظاہرے پندرہ مئی تک چلیں گے جس دن کو فلسطینی نکبا یا قیامت کے طور پر مناتے ہیں اور جس دن سنہ 1948 میں لاکھوں فلسطینیوں کو ان کے گھروں سے بے دخل کر دیا گیا تھا۔
اسرائیل فلسطینیوں کی واپسی کے حق کو تسلیم نہیں کرتا کیونکہ اتنی بڑی تعداد میں فلسطینیوں کی اسرائیل کے زیرِ قبضہ اپنے علاقوں میں واپسی سے یہودی آبادی اکثریت سے اقلیت میں تبدیل ہو سکتی ہے۔
اسرائیل کا کہنا ہے کہ یہ فلسطینی مہاجرین جن کی تعداد لاکھوں میں ہے ان کو مستقبل کی فلسطینی ریاست میں آباد کیا جا سکتا ہے۔
اسرائیل اور فلسطینی حکام کے درمیان سنہ 2014 کے بعد سے امن کا عمل تعطل کا شکار ہے۔

صدر محمود عباس کے ترجمان نے کہا ہے کہ فلسطینیوں کی طرف سے بڑا واضح پیغام ہے کہ فلسطینیوں کی سرزمین ان کے جائز مالکان کی ہے اور اسرائیل کے قبضے کو ختم کیا جانا ہے۔
اسرائیل فوج کے ایک ترجمان نے کہا کہ حماس ان مظاہروں کے پردے میں اسرائیل پر حملہ کرنا چاہتی ہے۔ انھوں نے کہا کہ اس علاقے میں اگلے پندرھ دن تک کشیدگی برقرار رہ گی
