BEIJING: China has categorically asked India to withdraw its troops from the Donglong area in Sikkim sector, insisting it is a precondition for a “meaningful dialogue” to settle the boundary issue.
It also warned that the Indian Army should learn “historical lessons”, in an oblique reference to the 1962 war.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang displayed a photograph of Indian incursion into Donglong area and said the dispute which is becoming a confrontation of sorts between the troops on the ground can only be settled by the withdrawal of Indian soldiers from the area, reported the Press Trust of India.
“Since the illegal trespass happened we have lodged solemn representations with the Indian side in both New Delhi and Beijing,” Lu said, showing the photograph from the podium.
He said the photographs will be displayed on the Foreign Ministry’s website later.
“The diplomatic channel for communication remains unimpeded. We urged the Indian side to withdraw troops back to the Indian side of the boundary immediately. This is the precondition for the settlement of this incident and also the basis for us to conduct any meaningful dialogue,” he said.
Addressing the media around the same time, China’s Defence spokesman Col Wu Qian rejected Bhutan’s allegation that PLA soldiers violated its territory in Donglong area, saying its troops operated on “Chinese territory” and also asked India to “correct” its “wrong doing”.
“I have to correct when you say Chinese personnel entered Bhutan’s territory. Chinese troops operated on Chinese territory,” a Chinese defence ministry spokesman told media here.
The People’s Liberation Army spokesman also accused Indian troops of entering the Chinese side in Donglong area in Sikkim sector.
“They tried to stop the normal activities. The Chinese carried out appropriate responses to these activities to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the spokesman said.
“We have made it clear to the Indian side to correct their wrong doing and withdraw all personnel from Chinese territory,” he said.
“The Indian border troupe personnel have entered the Chinese territory in the Sikkim sector of the India-China borders. They tried to stop the normal activities of the Chinese border defence forces in the Donglong region. We carried out appropriate responses to halt these actives to safeguard our national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
The Chinese military rejected as “extremely irresponsible” Army chief General Bipin Rawat’s remarks that India is ready for a two-and-a-half front war, asking him to “stop clamouring for war”.
Rawat had said that India is prepared for security threats posed by China, Pakistan as well as by internal threats.
The Donglong (Doklam) is a tri-junction area near the Chumbi Valley. It is under China’s control. However, Bhutan claims sovereignty over the area.
Asked about the protest lodged by Bhutan that the PLA has transgressed its territory in Donglong area as well as reports that Chinese military has destroyed bunkers of Indian army in the area, Col Wu said the PLA troops carried out “appropriate response to incursion” by Indian border guards into Chinese territory.

خبر رساں ادارے اے ایف پی کے مطابق بیان میں کہا گیا ہے کہ 'انڈیا چین کے حالیہ اقدامات پر شدید تشویش رکھتا ہے اور چینی حکام کو مطلع کر چکا ہے کہ ایسی کسی تعمیر سے حالات کو جوں کا توں رکھنے کا عمل متاثر ہو گا اور اس سٹرک کی تعمیر سے ملکی سلامتی پر سنگین اثرات مرتب ہوں گے۔'
انڈین وزارتِ خارجہ کے بیان میں یہ بھی کہا گیا ہے کہ انڈیا دونوں ممالک کے سرحدی علاقوں میں امن کا خیر مقدم کرتا ہے اور چاہتا ہے کہ اس معاملے کو مذاکرات کے ذریعے حل کیا جائے۔
چین رواں ہفتے کے دوران متعدد بار کہہ چکا ہے کہ انڈیا سرحد سے اپنی فوج ہٹائے کیونکہ وہ اس کے علاقے میں دراندازی کر رہی ہے۔

تاہم جمعے کو چین کی وزارتِ خارجہ کے ایک ترجمان لو کینگ نے ایک بیان میں کہا ہے 'چین کے بھوٹان سے ساتھ دوستانہ تعلقات ہیں لیکن یہ ہمارا عزم ہے کہ ہم ثابت قدمی سے اپنی علاقائی سالمیت اور حاکمیت کو برقرار رکھیں۔'
خیال رہے کہ چین نے حال ہی میں چین نے انڈیا کے سرحدی محافظوں کی جانب سے تبت اور سِکم کے درمیانی علاقے میں دراندازی کے بعد سکیورٹی خدشات کے باعث انڈیا سے آنے والے 300 ہندو اور بودھ یاتریوں کو اپنے علاقے میں داخلے کی اجازت نہیں دی تھی۔

BEIJING: The ‘war of words’ between China and India is heading towards extremity as the former today traded a new stern diplomatic warning to India over the new hotspot in the decades-old border dispute, a remote scrap of territory where the frontiers of China, India and Bhutan meet.
Today’s reprimand from Beijing was in response to Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, who said last week that India today is very different from what it was in 1962, when the countries fought a war over Arunachal Pradesh.
“He is right in saying that India in 2017 is different from 1962, just like China is also different,” said a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Geng Shuang.
He repeated that India must pull back the soldiers who Beijing accuses of entering its territory on the other side of the Sikkim border.
“China will take all necessary measures to safeguard its territorial sovereignty,” he warned.
On Friday, Mr Jaitley said that Beijing has instigated the military stand-off by building a road along the Himalayan border that is a security concern for India. Beijing on its part accuses soldiers of crossing from the north eastern state of Sikkim into its Tibetan territory to stop the road building and says it controls the territory under an 1890 accord made with Britain.
The Defence Minister’s reference to the 1962 war was made after Beijing suggested that India remember “the historic lessons” of that encounter, which was lost by India.
Bhutan has also lodged a formal protest to China, saying the road violates a bilateral agreement. Bhutan, which does not have diplomatic relations with China, still disputes sovereignty of the land.
“Statements issued by Bhutan make it clear that this is the land of Bhutan. It is located near India’s land. There is an arrangement between India and Bhutan for giving protection in the border region,” Mr Jaitley said last week.
The Chinese government spokesperson however accused India of using Bhutan as a “cover up” for the “illegal entry” into the Doklam area over which Bhutan has lodged a protest with the Chinese government.
He said the photographs will be displayed on the Foreign Ministry’s website later.
