Law student who survived brutal stabbing fears encountering attacker in school exam

UPDATED 3 DAYS AGO

Khadija appeared on Geo TV's 'Aaj Shahzaib Khanzada Kay Saath' on Wednesday evening

Khadija Siddiqui, a student at a private college, who was brutally attacked by her classmate in May last year, is due to sit an exam in the coming week — alongside her attacker.
Siddiqui, 22, was attacked on May 3 last year, three days before she was due to appear for her final law exams, by Shah Hussain, the son of Advocate Sayed Tanvir Hashmi.
Siddiqui had gone to pick up her seven-year-old sister, Sophia, from school and had barely approached her car when Hussain, wearing a helmet rushed towards them. The attacker then pushed Siddiqui and stabbed her 23 times.

A murder case was filed in Lahore High Court (LHC) within a week of the attack. Evidence was presented before the judiciary, including video footage which helped identify the attacker.
However, LHC had dismissed pre-arrest bail of the suspect in September 2016 while a sessions court granted him post-arrest bail after two months.
Appearing on Geo TV's 'Aaj Shahzaib Khanzada Kay Saath' on Wednesday evening, Siddiqui said she could not accept that a man who had tried to attack her in the presence of her younger sister would be appearing for the same law exam as her in two days.
"He will become a part of the same legal system, this is traumatising for me. I do not know how I will give the exam" Siddiqui said, appearing on the daily talk show a year after the brutal stabbing that left her in a critical state.
Siddiqui said that she used to be friends with Hussain up till a year before he attacked her. However, she added, that all communication between them had been cut off when Hussain became "coercive" towards her. Siddiqui said that Hussain has also hacked her accounts.
The victim of the brutal stabbing expressed her dismay at the legal system that has failed to bring her attacker to accountability.
"I don't understand how you can attack someone in front of their little sister with the intent to murder. Yet in this society, there is no accountability."
Siddiqui said that, in her opinion, the attacker had been allowed to walk free due to the "influence the lawyers have over the judge".
"The judges get scared, the lawyers have so much influence the judges are forced to give an incorrect verdict."
"In our [legal] system there are weaknesses. We have loopholes in the law, of course, but they are not enough to to validate such extensive delays [in granting justice]."
She asserted that the delays were means to exert pressure on "the weaker party."
"Those who have the power to do so, pressure the courts so much that the victim is forced to give up."
However, she added that that her determination to fight her case had never wavered, rather, it had become stronger.
"If i give up, the avenues will open up for others to engage in such violence with ease."
Siddiqui recounted that her attacker's father had approached her outside the court once and asked her to forgive his son.
"I told him the way you have sided with your son... this is very dangerous for the society. He can someday attack another girl, just the way he attacked me," Siddiqui said
Appealing to the judiciary to review its decision, Siddiqui said that her case should become a landmark case and set an example in society of punishment is handed down to even the powerful when they commit a crime.
She said that the decision of the court was "erroneous" and "perverse" and called on Chief justice Saqib Nisar to listen to her appeal.
Siddiqui also appealed to "those who have mothers and daughters in their homes to stand up and raise their voices."
"In this society the woman is always silenced, and she is asked to tolerate. They have tried to silence me as well, but I am still standing strong."

Khadija stabbing case: Accused submits petition against daily hearing

LAHORE: The prime suspect in the Khadija stabbing case, Shah Hussain, filed a petition on Tuesday challenging Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah’s notice of the case.
During the hearing, Hussain said the chief justice's administrative notice should be suspended. He further requested that the case hearing be held according to routine and not on a daily basis, as was recently ordered.
Khadija, who was allegedly stabbed two dozen times by the accused, and her mother, were also present at the court.
“I have come here with the hopes of getting justice from the chief justice,” said Khadija while speaking to media. “Chief justice should look into why his order was challenged.”
On May 23, the chief justice took notice of the case and directed a sessions judge to submit a report on the case.
Justice Mansoor directed judicial magistrate Mubashir Hussain Awan to conduct daily hearing of the case within 30 days.

On May 3 last year, Khadija was allegedly stabbed 23 times by her classmate, Hussain, on Lahore’s Davis Road. Over a year since the horrific incident, she still awaits justice and appeals to society to raise its voice for her.
Moreover, she was also forced to sit for her law exam along with her alleged attacker recently.
Sharing her story on Geo News' Aaj Shahzab Khanzada Kay Sath earlier, Khadija had said, “..I am standing my ground because if I let go, then this would create more such avenues."
Despite being caught on video, Hussain continues to roam free as he was able to secure a bail due to his belonging to an influential family, according to Khadija.
The sessions court granted Hussain bail on December 1, 2016, after he had spent two months behind bars. Khadija then filed an appeal against the court's decision, but it was dismissed.

Lets not forget Khadija case amid Panama frenzy

If Maryam Nawaz’s respect and honour was being hurt by going to the court, what about Khadija’s, Juxtapose?

For many yesterday was a big day for Pakistan as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was sent packing home. For Khadija Siddiqui and her Lawyer Hassan Niazi the coming day would be historic one- for 14 months she has fought with all her strength and will, to get justice against Shah Hussain who stabbed her 23 times, left irreparable scars not only on her body but her psyche also.

Khadija Siddiqui survived 23 stabs in broad daylight on Davis Road Lahore and stood up to get justice from the courts. Her younger sister was a witness to this barbaric act who has yet not recovered from the shock.
During one hearing the opponent lawyers cross examined Khadija Siddiqui for nine hours, they not only tried to do character assassination by showing her pictures with some class fellows and celebrities but also questioned if she was a virgin. They did it only to disgrace her and bring pressure on her so that she may step back from the case. This left everyone wondering of its relevance to the attack? No matter what their relationship was there is no justification for the attack.
Yet Khadija has stood firm against the perpetrator and the lawyers who are fighting his case, no doubt she is a fighter.
People were happy to learn that the Judge of Lahore High Court who is hearing this case, had refused to let the opponent’s lawyer present personal pictures and pass objectionable remarks against Khadija. Every case should be dealt in such a manner especially where it involves sensitive matters like a rape case, the honour of girls or physical wellbeing, that no woman should be shamed, ridiculed, or tortured for the sake of justice. As for the lawyers, its time they must also learn to behave themselves. They have turned into goons and when things do not go in their favor they start putting up a racket. Leaving the judge with no option than to tame them.
In this context during the Panama case when the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) summoned Maryam Nawaz for questions all hell broke loose with the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) bashing at the JIT waving the red card: ‘Woman, Islam and Honour, even saying ‘our daughter’ was brought to court.
Maryam Nawaz in her turn preached about Islam, honour and how painful it must have been for her father to see his daughter appear before the court.
For nearly two days, social media and talk shows on the television were abuzz with debate on the ‘daughter of the nation’ being called in to the court.
Many people raised the questions regarding the daughter of the nation.
Who is daughter of the nation?
What is the criteria of becoming daughter of the nation?
Is this label only appropriate for Nawaz Sharif’s daughter? Wasn’t Benazir Bhutto also the daughter of a Prime Minister? If we recall history, we see Benazir Bhutto and Nusrat Bhutto being ill-treated by their opponents. Not to forget how Nawaz himself did the character assassination of Benazir on various occasions. For our elder generation at least Benazir was daughter of the nation too, but she did not cry foul like Maryam Nawaz did. Maryam surely needs to go through history to know what her father said and did to that daughter.
Let’s put these daughters, born in limelight, aside and talk about our daughters, the actual ones. In Pakistan, what is their importance in the families? The moment a woman wants to go to the police station or even to a court – bells start ringing and everyone tries to stop them.
Is Khadija not a daughter? Why is she threatened constantly? Isn’t Khadija’s father in pain to witness her daughter going to the court? Does anyone realise what her family might have gone through when those obnoxious questions were put in front her in the court? But then, she is not the nation’s daughter, she is our daughter, so she can be treated anyway they like.
I have a question for Maryam Nawaz and the PML(N) leadership, how can anyone say nothing for Khadija’s rights, or not even try to stand by her? If Maryam's respect and honour was being hurt by going to the court, what about Khadija’s, Juxtapose?
If by any chance, Maryam plans to participate in the coming elections, one has to remember apart from other things that she did not raise her voice for the women, irrespective of her political or social standing.
Recently during a public meeting, Nawaz ridiculed the ladies of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) and Maryam did not condemn it; nor did she say anything to Khawaja Asif when he called Sherin Mazari a Tractor Trolley on the floor of the Parliament, yet everyone had an issue with her appearing before the JIT.
Hopefully today Khadija Siddiqui will get justice. As for many, only Khadija is the true face of the daughter of the nation for she stood up not only for herself but for the women of Pakistan facing injustice, dishonour and character assassination, just like her.
