LESSON-10 A CASE FOR NORMALIZATION (Cont’d; Ashraf, Khan, and Mir)

LESSON-10  A CASE FOR NORMALIZATION  (Cont’d; Ashraf, Khan, and Mir)

10.1 Review

Normalization processes of entities are means of finding out functional dependencies among the attributes of entities. The fully normalized database is obtained by elimination of potential functional redundancies when there multiple, composite, overlapping candidate keys. This is accomplished by converting files of 0nf, 1nf, 2nf, 3nf, BCNF, 4nf, 5nf as much necessary.

In transactional databases the commonly required normalization levels are 1nf, 2nf, and 3f. See a case going through those steps.
