Pakistani student also loses life in Texas school shooting
TEXAS: The United States of America has witnessed a number of horrifying incidents that have seen the grave loss of young lives. The recent of which was the Parkland school shooting where 17 people lost their lives. But it seems like America has yet to win its battle against national safety and gun control.
The recent shooting incident that happened at a Texas high school has proved the negligence of the U.S. government. At least 10 people were killed while other 10 are battling for their lives when a 17-year-old opened fire at students inside a school.
Sabika Sheikh
One student who lost her life was a Pakistani girl named Sabika Sheikh.
Sabika Sheikh, a resident of Karachi, was part of the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programme. She was among 75 Pakistani students who were selected to study abroad under the scholarship programme.
Sabika was the eldest child of her parents, she has two younger sisters.
The deceased’s father, saying that he still cannot believe that his daughter is no more, shared that Sabika was a genius girl who used to achieve excellent grades always. She was both a bright student and a caring daughter.
According to reports, Sabika’s mortal remains will return to Pakistan by Monday.
The Pakistan Embassy in Washington, D.C., identified Sabika as a victim of the shooting on Twitter and wrote that “our thoughts and prayers are with Sabika’s family and friends.”
The U.S. President Donald Trump and First lady Melania Trump both showed their remorse over the lives lost via twitter.
“My administration is determined to do everything in our power to protect our students, secure our schools, and to keep weapons out of the hands of those who pose a threat to themselves, and to others,” he said.
The Pakistan Association of Greater Houston said on Facebook that Sabika was due to go back home to Pakistan for Eid al-Fitr.
“May Allah bless her soul and may she RIP,” the statement said.
Sabika was an A-levels student and was expected to return to home on the 9th of June.
The Shooter:
The attacker, who was arrested and charged with murder, was identified as Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a 17-year-old pupil at Santa Fe High School.
He allegedly used a shotgun and a revolver taken from his father, who legally owned the weapons.
Facebook confirmed that it deleted the Instagram account of the accused after Friday’s shooting, along with his apparent Facebook account.
He followed only 13 Instagram accounts and eight of them were fan pages for firearms. The others include the official accounts for the White House, President Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump and Melania Trump’s official @FLOTUS account.
